When to Renew Your US Coast Guard Documentation and How

Has it been some time since you received your initial documentation and now you’re wondering whether you should renew your US Coast Guard documentation? Do you worry that you may have missed the deadline? Of all the reasons that folks use our site, perhaps the most common is to renew their documentation. We know how much of a chore it can be to remember when and how to do this. That’s just some of the reasons that we make it as easy as possible on vessel owners like yourself.

Renew Your US Coast Guard Documentation at the Right Time

If it’s been a while since you renewed, you might think: “well, the right thing to do is to renew right now.” While it may seem counterintuitive, that’s not necessarily true. Yes, your documentation has to be renewed every year. However, it’s always due during its expiration month. If you renew it before that month, that will renew your documentation for another year, yes. But, it will invalidate the documentation you already have. So, in a very real way, you’ll have lost a month that you’ve paid for. Thus, renewing at the right time (and not too early or too late) is the right course of action.

How We Make Renewal Easier

You might have read the above and thought: “OK, I can make a note of that, but it may not be easy to keep that straight.” That’s where we come in. At our site, when you renew, you can renew for several years in advance. In fact, you can do it for up to five years at once. Should you choose, you can even renew it for multiple years when you file for your initial documentation. That way, you never have to worry about renewal for the next half-decade.

What Happens if You Don’t Renew on Time

In short, nothing good. It can cause you any number of problems. The best way to avoid the pitfalls of failing to renew your documentation is to, of course, renew on time. Should it be too late for that, you can no longer renew. However, that said, you aren’t out of luck by any means. Instead, at our site, you can file for “reinstatement.” Remember: after the deadline is too late to “renew,” but you still have time to “reinstate.”

More Than Just Renewal Available

“Renewal” may be the most common reason that anyone uses our site, but it’s far from the only reason that folks do. Essentially, we have the documentation that you might need throughout your course of vessel ownership. In addition to initial documentation and renewal, we also have the forms you’ll need to file for a Preferred Ship’s Mortgage, then the ones you’ll need when it’s time to satisfy that mortgage as well. You can see everything that we offer at our site right here. If you have any questions, we’ll be happy to answer them. Just reach out through our site.
