The focus of our business is USCG forms. With them, you’ll always be legally able to do what you want to do on the water. Before you leave port, we make it so you can be in compliance. In a way, it’s not dissimilar to boat safety. You want to have everything you need to be as safe and secure as possible before you ship off. That’s true at every time of the year, but perhaps especially so in the fall, as the seasons change.
Don’t Dress for the Air Temperature, Dress for the Water Temperature
Hopefully, when you decide to take your vessel out in autumn, it’s a warm, sunny day. However, temperatures can change quickly and dramatically during the fall. Water temperature, however, tends to be quite cold regardless. When boating during the fall, you have to assume that the water will be near freezing. Best plan of action: layering. Wear layers that you can quickly and comfortably take on and off. That way, if the sun comes out from the clouds, you won’t be too hot. By that same token, should something happen where you do go in the water, you’ll be warm and protected then, too.
Give Yourself Multiple Ways to Communicate With the Shore
If you’re like so many other modern boaters, you’re going to have your phone with you on the water. However, depending on what body of water you’re on (as well as where you are on it) you may not be able to get reception. That’s why so many vessel owners are going “old school,” so to speak, and making sure that their vessel has a marine VHF radio, too. Remember: the Coast Guard always monitors channel 16 for vessels in distress on VHF. You don’t want to assume that something bad will happen, but it’s good to be prepared.
Keep Your Boat in Good Shape
Depending on when you read this blog, autumn may have given way to fall. It could be that snow is falling where you are. If that’s the case, check your plumbing as well as your lines while you’re still at the dock. Should water freeze in those, it can cause real damage. By that same token, the colder the weather gets, the faster it can drain your batteries. Checking things before you head out is always a solid plan.
A Site for USCG Forms Year Round
Many vessel owners choose this time of year to take care of all of their vessel documentation. After all, they tend to be on their vessels less. Handling documentation now can be less of a chore because it can make you think of spring, summer, warm weather, and more. At our site, you can find all of the forms that you’ll need for your vessel at any time of year. 24/7/365, our site is open and ready to help you fill out your forms when you’d like. If you have any questions, feel free to send us an email.
