Changing of the Tides: US Vessel Documentation for Life Events

Has your life changed dramatically since you initially filed for your vessel documentation? Are you unsure whether or not you have to update your documentation? Even experienced vessel owners aren’t always 100% sure when they do and do not have to update their information. That’s why, here at our U. S. Vessel Documentation Online site, we’ve made it as easy as possible to do just that. We know that, when it comes to all of the things you have to take care of in your life, US vessel documentation is rarely at the top of your queue. However, it does have to be taken care of. So, we’ve expedited the process as much as possible.

US Vessel Documentation When you Move

Whenever any of us goes through something as comprehensive as a move, we all make lists of what has to be done. Addresses must be updated, credit cards, other legal documents, and so forth – that said, vessel documentation has to be on this list, too. Should you move, then it’s time to file a “Change of Address” form through us. The same holds true for your boat, too. If you’ve moved its hailing port from one to another, then that can be updated on the same form.

When You Add or Subtract a Co-Owner of Your Vessel

Many of us co-own vessels. As life or jobs change, some of us may ask to be taken off of the ownership of a vessel. By that same token, many of us meet new people in our lives and we mutually decide to bring them onto a vessel’s ownership. We offer forms that allow you to do both at our site. The Transfer/Exchange forms also work if you decide to sell the vessel to someone new and so forth. Keep in mind: if there’s an outstanding mortgage on the vessel, then the lender/mortgagee will have to provide permission for this to go through.

When Your Certificate of Registration is Lost or Destroyed

Yes, you do need to keep a physical copy of your Certificate of Registration on your vessel. No, if it is lost or mutilated, your registration is no longer valid. This may seem harsh, but it’s true. Having a jpg on your phone, or a photocopy on your boat is not good enough. To be in compliance, you have to get a replacement.

US Vessel Documentation Moving Forward

The preceding paragraphs cover just a few of the circumstances which our vessel documentation can help with. The truth is that vessels, just like people’s lives, are all entirely different. What’s right for someone else won’t be right for you, and vice versa. Over the years, we’ve helped so many vessel owners in so many different situations to make the right choices to keep them on their best course. If you have any questions, you can email us or use the Contact form at our site. To see everything that we have to offer, head to our U. S. Vessel Documentation Online site.
