Read on if you want to find out all the nvdc forms that can be processed on your behalf at our site.

NVDC Forms

To make your task a bit easier, we have created a list in this article, with some of the most important nvdc forms that can be done at our portal and a short explanation of them.

Initial

This form allows you to apply for U.S. Coast Guard Documentation only if your vessel has never been documented under U.S. Coast Guard Documentation before. The vessel must measure at least five net tons and be wholly owned by a citizen of the United States.

Renewal

This form allows you to renew your vessel’s Certificate of Documentation (COD). If your COD has expired beyond 30 days from its expiration date, then an application for Reinstatement of documentation is required to be submitted.

Change of Address

This form allows you to change the physical and or mailing address on record.

Transfer

This form allows you to make a change/transfer in the vessel’s ownership (adding/removing a spouse, selling the vessel, transferring the vessel to a new individual, company, or trust, changing a managing owner’s name, etc). If there is an outstanding mortgage on the vessel, the mortgage will need to be satisfied or permission from the mortgagee (lender) will need to be obtained in order to complete the transfer of the vessel’s Certificate of Documentation.

Reinstatement

This form allows you to Reinstate the vessel’s Certificate of Documentation (COD) and return the vessel to active status. This form is only used when the expiration date on the COD has passed 30 days from its expiration date. This form allows No Changes to be made on the COD other than an address change of the managing owner.

Certified Copy (COD)

This form allows you to order a Certified Copy of the current vessel’s Certificate of Documentation as it currently exists on record.

You can order a replacement of the vessel’s Certificate of Documentation (COD) when the COD has been lost or mutilated.

You can also apply for the vessel’s Deletion from the U.S. Coast Guard Documentation. A vessel may be deleted upon the request of the vessel owner or authorized agent acting on behalf of the owner.

Marad Small Vessel Waiver

This form allows for certain foreign-built vessels, or vessels with no documentation, to gain a waiver of the U.S.-build requirement in order to conduct limited commercial passenger operations in the United States. The waiver, once obtained, becomes part of the vessel’s documentation and stays with the vessel if it is sold or transferred to a new owner.

Abstract of Title

This form allows you to prove the ownership of the boat. It also specifies the type of document that contains the vessel registration information and any legally binding regulations and obligations that are imposed on the vessel owner. During the AOT process, the seller must reveal any liens against the vessel, any services conducted on the vessel, any safety checks performed, and any guarantees or indemnities issued by the seller about any equipment onboard.
